Install Drivers

Before Installing Software and Drivers

Make sure your video capture hardware is installed in your computer and that the drivers for the hardware are installed. So that the Video Monitoring Software has a hardware video capture device to use. See installation instructions that came with your hardware usually located on the CD or in the software download package.

Make sure the drivers are installed for the video capture device/card before running the Video Surveillance WebCam Software.

  1. The drivers are usually on the CD as a file that one needs to execute/run, which then install the drivers. After re-boot the computer, and Windows should find the drivers.
  2. The other scenario, is where Windows finds the drivers directly from the CD, and installs them without any need to execute an install driver program.
  3. Or you may have your own drivers for your video capture device, or you downloaded the drivers from our web site.

If using a 4 port card with a Conexant chip on it, Windows needs to find and install the driver twice. Once for the video driver. And then again once more for the audio/aux driver. If both parts are not installed the driver can fail. One can check Windows, Device Manager, under Sound Video and Game Controllers, to make sure the driver exists there, and is listed in two parts, ... Video Driver, ....Audio/Aux.. Driver.

Most often Windows, Found New Hardware Wizard, will offer to download drivers from the internet - say NO not this time, but rather choose install drivers automatically, from the local computer. If the Wizard says driver is Not Signed, usually is OK to choose, install anyway.

Sometimes Windows does not find the new hardware at all. Then one could try several things like:

  1. remove the drivers with a driver uninstall program, re-install drivers, and re-boot, and see Windows finds the new hardware. Or remove the drivers manually from Device Manager, re-boot, install drivers, and re-boot again.
  2. Make sure the computer and power is off, remove the hardware, and put it another computer slot, and then start the computer, and see Windows finds the new hardware, and the already installed drivers or from the CD.

If the Video Surveillance WebCam Software hangs after running for a while, maybe the Windows cannot handle the driver. If so try using a substitute driver eg the Universal WDM driver from our web site.

Video Multiplexer

If using our 8 port video multiplexer make sure it is installed in your computer. That the cables are hooked up right between the video capture card and the multiplexer - see CD or software download package for detailed instructions.

Install the drivers for the video multiplexer. Execute a program on the CD called vidmux.exe or MuxDriver.exe - it installs the driver installer program. After that from the Windows TaskBar, click on Start, Programs, InstallVidMux, InstallVidMux, which runs the multiplexer driver installer program.  Once the Install VidMux program is up and visible on your screen, click on menu item, Install, Install Video Multiplexer Driver. Click OK on the returned message boxes. Then do menu item File, Exit. Then re-boot the computer.

If you have an earlier version of the InstallVidMux Program, follow the instructions in it's Help Documentation, or the installation instructions on the CD or the software download package.

To uninstall the mux driver, run the InstallVidMux.exe program, click on menu item, Uninstall Video Multiplexer  Driver, exit, and restart the computer.
