Select Hardware Type

Menu Location: Settings - Video Audio Configuration

After selecting the video driver for the video capture device select the hardware type that best conforms to the video capture device that you are using. Some or all of the hardware may not be available depending on the version of the software purchased. If your video capture device is a PCI card with a Conexant chip on it, then most likely you will be able to use the Video Surveillance WebCam Software to automatically change the brightness individually for each camera.

Type of video capture hardware supported are as follows:

(a) 1 camera any device

Any video capture device/driver eg a usb video capture device like Logitech. Configure the device with menu item Video Source, and Video Format. The Video Surveillance WebCam Software cannot automatically change the brightness and contrast for this hardware selection. Device can even be a video capture device with or without a Conexant chip on it. If the device has multiple inputs, use Video Source, to select the video input/source which the video camera is plugged into.

(b) 4 Cameras: 4 Port Conexant PCI Card

If you have a video capture card with a Conexant chip on it which sits on the computers PCI bus slot of the motherboard, then select this hardware option. It can be a 4 video port or even 1 video port input card. Consider using the Universal WDM Driver form our web site for this card if your existing driver does not work. For example you are using our 4 port video capture card or a generic video capture card like the Pico 2000, or the Osprey card. One would use buttons 0-3 to switch between the video inputs in the Video Surveillance WebCam Software. The cameras or camera cables would be plugged into the 4 inputs of the video capture card.

(c) 8 Cameras: 8 Port Video Multiplexer plugged into Conexant Card

You would need our 8 port video multiplexer hardware to use this option. Use menu item Video Source to select which video input the video multiplexer connector number 8 is plugged into. Example you are using a WinTV Go TV tuner card with our 8 port video multiplexer. One would use buttons 0-7 to switch between the video inputs in the Video Surveillance WebCam Software. The cameras or camera cables would be plugged into the 8 inputs of the video multiplexer cable.

(d) 11 Cameras: 8 Port Video Multiplexer plugged into a 4 Port Conexant Card

You would need our 8 port video multiplexer hardware to use this option. Plug the video muliplexer into the 1st port of the video capture card. 1st port would be the video input connector which corresponds to button number 0 of the numeric key pad in the Monitoring Control Window. Click on button number 0, use only one camera, try plugging a camera in the video input connectors of the video capture card until you see video in the Main Video Window - when see video that is the 1st port of the video capture card, plug the video multiplexer output connector number 8 into the 1st port of the video capture card. Thus the 1st port and the video multiplexer will give 8 video inputs, buttons 0-7. And the other 3 RCA connectors of the 4 port card will correspond to buttons 8, 9, and 10 in the Video Surveillance WebCam Software. The cameras or camera cables would be plugged into the 8 inputs of the video multiplexer cable, and the other 3 cameras would plug into the remaining video connectors on the video capture card.

(e) 8 Cameras: 8 Port Multiplexer Plugged into any device.

You would need our 8 port video multiplexer hardware to use this option. Plug the video multiplexer output connector number 8 into any video capture device with a video input. Result turns any video capture device into an 8 camera input video monitoring system. Example a one input usb device becomes an 8 input usb device. Or an ATI card with 1 video input becomes an 8 input video capture device for monitoring. If the video capture device has more than 1 input, use menu item Video Source, to select the video input and plug the video multiplexer output connector number 8 in there. One would use buttons 0-7 to switch between the video inputs in the Video Surveillance WebCam Software. The cameras or camera cables would be plugged into the 8 inputs of the video multiplexer cable.

We can supply the 8 Port Video Multiplexer, and 4 Port Video Capture Cards if you need them.

Check our website for recommended video capture hardware and  drivers.

After selecting the Hardware Type on needs to restart the Video Surveillance WebCam Software. On program re-start if the Video Surveillance WebCam Software cannot connect to the hardware, it will default to (a) the one camera setup - make sure you have the right hardware and drivers installed and then try again.

If using Conexant based PCI video capture card, put it in an empty PCI slot closest to the microprocessor chip, ahead of any other PCI video capture card if you have more than 1 PCI capture card in the PCI bus.
