My IP Address

When accessing the Video Surveillance WebCam Software remotely over the internet from another computer, you need to know your computers ip address on the internet.

If you know your ip address as seen from the internet try the previous examples with your browser from a remote location over the internet, otherwise one can try the following.

There are many ways to find your ip address as seen from the internet, sometimes called the WAN Address. Another way is use the Video Surveillance WebCam Software's IP Tracking features.

Use Our IP Address Tracking

  1. make sure your connected to the internet.
  2. in the Video Surveillance WebCam Software, click on menu item, Test Send IP Address. Result: should be "Send IP Address OK"
  3. click on menu item Remote ID to know your remote id.
  4. go to our web site, and click on a link called something like "Find your computer on the internet", "IP Address Tracking",.., and enter your Remote ID. Result: a record of your ip address is returned in your web browser.
  5. Use the ip address called "IP Address Seen", it should be your IP Address on the internet and enter it into your web browser as done in the previous example ie enter http://IpAddressSeen/logon.htm

If you got the Log On Page that is success, try the remote viewing too to make sure the video streaming ports are open too.

If you did the Log On Page then possible some possible causes of error are:

  • the modem or router's ports are closed
  • firewall software ports are closed
  • your ISP is blocking port 80, try again with Web Server listening on port 90
  • an error was typed into the browser - double check
  • your router's ip address changed from the time your sent the ip address to the time your trying with your browser.

In any error case check and configure your network.

Other Ways to Check Your IP Address

  • use ipconfig from the DOS prompt
  • click on your isp internet connection software
  • log into your modem or router an check the WAN ip address

Note:

Your computer's ip address may not necessarily be your ip address as seen from the internet ie WAN Address, if your are using a router or modem-router. A common misunderstanding. Read your router or modem-router manual or call your ISP. One usually needs to log into a router to find what the WAN address is.

If using a router or modem-router they have two ip addresses. An internal one called a LAN Address, and an external one called the WAN Address. The WAN Address is the ip address you need to connect from the internet. The LAN Address is you computer's ip address which is only valid internal to your network, and it cannot be used remotely from the internet to connect to your computer.
